Communities are full of vibrant, creative people- it’s no wonder we are curious to find out more about each other and share where else our work can be found! But sometimes, people take advantage of this joy and overshare, revealing personal information or upending the conversation to promote themselves, regardless of the interests of the Community.
This type of self-promotion is generally frowned upon. If you run a blog, channel, shop, website, or other project and would like to share it on DC Universe, you'll need to first make sure that you're following the below guidelines.
Although submitting a link to a site you own, or benefit from, is not strictly forbidden, it does raise some flags. With that in mind, please pay careful attention to the rest of these bullet points.
- If your main contribution to DC Universe consists mostly of submitting links to a site(s) that you own or otherwise benefit from in some way, and you do not engage in the Community by joining in discussions or replying to members, you are a spammer. We consider a 10-to-1 rule- if 10% or more of your recent posts are your own site/content/affiliate links, this is considered spam. If moderators determine your posts are mostly self-promotion, they may be subject to removal.
- If people historically like your posts, schway! It may not be spam! However, you still need to adhere to our Guidelines.
- Self-promotion is more like what you would do at a networking event. This is where it would make sense to give pitches, business cards, and promote your work.
- The DC Universe Community is more like the neighborhood pool party. People want to relax and chat and throw some food on the grill. But if you start handing out business cards and pitching ideas, the host may not invite you back. When you’re in the DC Universe community, take time to get to know other members. Participate in discussions, make some new friends, and you'll have a much better time.
